Pierrette Zouein

Dr. Zouein joined LAU in 1996 as Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering and was promoted to Associate Professor with limited tenure in October 2002. She served as the Faculty Representative of the Byblos Campus in 2003 and was appointed Chairperson of the Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Department in 2006.

Prior to joining LAU, Dr. Zouein worked as a consultant on developing a strategy for implementing project management and project scheduling at Ford Motor Company: Electronics, and Plastic and Trim Divisions and Chrysler Corporation, Jeep Truck Engineering Division in 1993. She also worked as a consultant for the Sponsored Research and Development Center at LAU on a number of training projects administered to professionals from the banking and service industry.

She is an active member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and is a registered professional in the Lebanese Order of Engineers.

Research interests

Dr. Zouein’s research interests and publications are mainly in the area of facilities planning and layout. She worked on developing and comparing different methods for solving the dynamic site layout and space scheduling problems using artificial intelligence, operations research, and evolutionary approaches. Other research interests span optimization of industrial systems with a focus on the airline industry. Problems researched were in forecasting passengers load, fuel management, revenue management and yield management.
