An IoT Guider System for Visually Impaired Students

Visually impaired students face numerous issues during their campus life as a significant portion of schools and universities don’t currently accommodate systems and facilities for visually impaired students to freely circulate on campus.  In this paper, we propose a guidance system that interacts with a voice controlled smartphone interface to address this issue.  The proposed system aims to present the student with a way to navigate from one location to another, in addition to an emergency system that is triggered when the alarm system goes off in any building.  We discuss in this paper the main components of the system with focus on the guider application’s navigation algorithm, the emergency process, the IoT features used and the data over sound functionality.  We also describe the results of the user evaluation process that we performed.  Report in pdf
