Design of a System Interchange – Chevrolet Intersection
This project revolves around the grade separation of the Chevrolet intersection, that is of extreme importance for connecting four major Beirut areas and currently experiences excessive delay. The proposed system interchange is a major flow (Sin el Fil – Haddath) underpass, and the rest of the
movements cross above its covered section. After completing the tunnel and intersection design following AASHTO standards, the signal optimization and traffic operation analysis were adjacently alternating processes aimed at minimizing the delay and maximizing the Level of
Service (LOS). Finally, the project results were at minimum satisfactory, obtaining a 20-yearprojected LOS borderline between D and E.
