3D Printing Filament Extruder

The project proposed consists of a machine that turns recycled plastic into 3D printing filament. This machine is a modified plastic extruder that uses an Auger bit as a screw and a diameter sensor to control and regulate the extruded filament’s diameter. Finally, the filament will be rolled around a spool to become available for use.

This project tackles the critical issue of plastic recycling. The most abundant plastic for the average user is PET from water bottles. Therefore, recycling water bottles is the main aim for this project.

The extruder will be used to produce a good amount of filament in a short amount of time. Most importantly, it promotes the recycling culture and sheds light on sustainable engineering design.
