Design or rehabilitation of a selected public school in Byblos area
The Lebanese educational system has usually relied heavily on private schooling to accommodate the ever-growing demand for learning in the country. While public education is very important and constitutes the backbone of a country’s educational system worldwide, public schools in Lebanon suffer from numerous deficiencies and a lower quality of education which could be attributed to many different reasons:
- poor infrastructure
- low enrollment in rural areas and high student to teacher ratio in urban areas
- inadequate buildings and educational space to provide academic materials and extracurricular activities that meet international standards
- inefficient bureaucratic procedures
Another weakness in public education is the high annual cost per student borne by the government in public schools that is much higher than in private schools but not commensurate with better results. This project entails identifying a public school in the Byblos area and developing an improved design of the facility including the physical system design, and the layout design. The proposed design should include personnel, materials and equipment requirements needed to deliver an adequate level of service and should optimize school capacity, space utilization and capital investment costs.
