Simulating Sensations of Touch in Virtual Reality (VR)

We live in a digital world today where VR research is advancing at a rapid pace. VR is introduced into immersive three-dimensional (3D) gaming and as well as simulation training such as flight simulation or surgical training. This research project will use a state-of-the-art VR system (HTC Vive) in an attempt to augment haptic feedback sensations such as the sensation of size, weight, and stiffness of virtual objects. A virtual environment created using Unity 3D software will be used to set up empirical experiments. These experiments would include lifting virtual dumbbells, and discriminating virtual objects by perceived weight. The system would then be used to generate physical sensations in VR; a significant breakthrough in immersive gaming, training simulations, and physical movement rehabilitation. This project requires some programming experience (e.g. LabVIEW, C#, Unity 3D, Matlab).
