Dr. Abdallah Sfeir joined LAU in 1995 as the Acting Dean of the then-newly established School of Engineering and Architecture, Dr. Sfeir was appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering with tenure, and Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture in 1996. He was appointed Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1999, Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2003, and served as LAU Provost from 2009 to 2012. Since that date, Dr Sfeir returned to faculty ranks and was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by the LAU Board in September 2013.

Dr. Sfeir received his Master of Science and Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California (UC), Berkeley, and then returned to Lebanon to join AUB in 1969 where he served as Professor until 1989.

At AUB, Dr. Sfeir served as Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1982 to 1985 and Coordinator of Faculty of Engineering Off-Campus Program from 1985 to 1989. From 1989 to 1996, he was Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ecole des Mines de Nancy, France. During his sabbaticals, Dr. Sfeir also taught and worked with research teams at UC Berkeley and at ENTPE in Lyon, France.

Dr. Sfeir has published three books and several papers in the areas of thermal sciences and computer algebra. He was elected as General Secretary of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) from 1991 to 1997.
