Abstract
Engineering Statics is one of the first courses where students must reason in 3D while working mostly with 2D drawings. Many common errors come from spatial misunderstandings: incorrect force directions, missing or wrong reaction forces, confusion about a force’s line of action, and mistakes in moment arms and vector decomposition. This project proposes a PCVR learning module built in Unity that helps students see and manipulate statics concepts in 3D for better understanding. The module includes short interactive exercises with immediate feedback.
We will evaluate learning benefits by comparing the VR module to a traditional 2D lesson covering the same topics. Students will complete pre/post assessments focused on conceptual understanding and transfer to new problems. The objective is to measure whether interactive VR reduces common statics misconceptions and improves performance versus standard instruction.
