Charles Malek

Dar’s Partner for Structures and Bridges, Charles Malek is an exceptional leader, design manager, technical expert, and researcher with over 30 years of experience. As Partner, he has led Dar’s structural engineers and bridge specialists in designing solutions for some of the world’s most ambitious and structurally complex buildings and infrastructure, covering everything from high-rise buildings such as Africa’s tallest tower in Egypt to bridges such as the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link and much more.
Leveraging his extensive academic background in reinforced and prestressed concrete, earthquake analysis, and construction methods and techniques, Charles has led teams working on all types of structures, including buildings, bridges, retaining and hydraulic structures, as well as special and complex structures such as long-span structures, cable-stayed bridges, post-tensioned concrete segmental bridges, towers and high-rise buildings, stadiums, and more. Charles’ teams work across project lifecycles from concept design through detailed design and on-site technical support for construction.
As Partner, Charles has also driven a research agenda focused on state-of-the-art design and construction techniques, including generative design, additive manufacturing and 3D printing, and structural and bridge design automation through computational design and artificial intelligence. Under his leadership, Dar created a meticulous process for experimentation, innovation, prototyping, and structural design optimization, developing in-house tools that automate repetitive tasks, generate and test designs, enhance and facilitate coordination, improve quality, accelerate delivery, and much more.
