Research interests
Technology commercialization and engineering entrepreneurship: how technical work moves from the laboratory or the student project to a demonstrated prototype, a validated application and a viable venture. A second interest is in engineering economics and the evaluation of capital projects under uncertainty — investment appraisal, risk, and the decisions that determine whether industrial and energy projects proceed. This work draws on more than twenty years in industry across the Middle East, Europe and Africa, including as Chief Executive of Bureau Veritas in Saudi Arabia and Chief Executive Officer for the Middle East and North Africa at thyssenkrupp, and earlier roles with Saint-Gobain and Dar Al-Handasah.
