Robin ASDA: Robot in Autism Spectrum Disorder Assistance
The project at hand aims at supporting educators in classrooms of 5 to 6 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It primarily targets supporting students in their routine activities by offering guidance and support. A significant problem for educators is the need to repeat instructions, which can cause frustration, even unconsciously, and impact the way a message is delivered. This is solved by an assistive robot, designed to handle those cases with care and objectivity. Similarly, while tantrums are delicate to handle, the robot is able to detect behavioral changes that allow for their early detection and prevention as a result. The robot also aims to promote desired behaviors among students by establishing a reward system that encourages them to perform certain actions.
