Nature-Inspired Therapeutics: Advancing Drug Discovery from Natural Products
The project is a large-scale, multidisciplinary initiative aimed at discovering novel drug candidates from natural sources such as marine organisms, medicinal plants, and microbial metabolites. By integrating chemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, environmental science, and AI-driven computational modeling, this project will identify, characterize, and optimize bioactive compounds for neurodegenerative diseases and emerging infectious threats. Students will engage in sustainable bioprospecting, high-throughput screening, molecular docking, and in vivo efficacy testing, guided by faculty, graduate mentors, and industry partners. The project will foster innovation by bridging academia and industry, leading to scientific publications, patents, and potential startups, while also equipping students with entrepreneurial and commercialization skills. This initiative will develop a sustainable drug discovery pipeline, translating cutting-edge research into real-world therapeutic solutions.
